Confirmation

All Christians who were baptized at a young age and others who were baptized as an adult in another Christian faith tradition, are encouraged to “make a mature public affirmation of their faith and commitment to the responsibilities of their Baptism.” (Book of Common Prayer, pg. 412)

Confirmation, as well as Reception and the Reaffirmation of Baptismal Vows, are all done through the prayers and laying on of hands by one of our Diocesan bishops at their annual visitation to the parish.

The Bishop of the Diocese of West Texas officiates over our Confirmations. He will confirm those who desire to affirm their faith and commit themselves to Christ and Christ’s work in and through St. George. Those who were baptized and confirmed in other faith traditions who practice the laying of hands by a bishop (e.g. the Roman Catholic church) are received into the communion. Others who have spent some time away from the Church or who are new to St. George may reaffirm their baptismal vows as a sign of committing to God and his Church.

High School Graduation

St. George Episcopal Church presents a special gift to each of our high school graduates to mark this momentous milestone in their lives.

We give each high school graduate a personalized Bible with scripture blessings from our parishioners highlighted throughout each of their Bibles. We also offer prayers for all graduates during the worship service.

It is our hope that these Bibles will be a treasured source of guidance and inspiration for our graduates as they begin a new journey in their lives.

College Send Off

St. George wants to bless all our youth who are heading off to college. This important transition is a time of excitement, growth, and new beginnings, and we want our youth to know they go with the love and prayers of their church family.

In the Book of Common Prayer, we pray for “all schools, colleges, and universities” that they may be places of truth, wisdom, and discovery (BCP, p. 824). In that same spirit, we offer a blessing for our youth, asking God to protect them, guide them, and help them remain rooted in Christ wherever they go.

If you have a student beginning college, please let the church office know so we may include them in this special blessing.
